Well, that was quick!
The databases are still spinning, finding winners and losers in the draft Congressional Assembly and Senate districts, but that hasn't stopped City Council Member and former Assemblyman Tony Cardenas from announcing for the now vacant Congressional seat formerly held by Howard Berman. This could leave Berman to ponder a run against a prominent Latino or a battle with the scrappy Brad Sherman who has already banked $4 million for a potential run.
While Congressional moves are being made, someone should arrange for a couple dinners with Assemblymembers Dickinson, Yamada and Pan, who all have a district in common and the Speaker could join with Gil Cedillo, Holly Mitchell and Mike Davis in a discussion about their cozy little district.
And imagine this: There are are going to be about 30 members termed out of the Assembly in 2012, and the commission just created 16 vacant districts and 23 members sharing seats! No wonder Assemblymembers are already lining up for these vacant Congessional seats!
The maps are slowly getting online and data is available for all the Congressional and Assembly districts. Senate Districts are coming together and showing the juicy showdown between Cameron Smyth and Fran Pavley for a new and absurd Senate seat in LA County. When all the maps are finally up I will send out a final notice, then we will be back to our regular schedule for Monday.
