Happy Labor Day! Thank you to all the people who have been required to show up to work the last several months. And, my thoughts are with those laid off, particularly in the hospitality industry. I don't travel much these days (no Mexico City for me this week), but I feel for all of those workers who made my beds and cleaned when I was always on the road for work. I know that a lot of those employees are without work now and the same is true for restaurant employees. A friend I met in Mexico City tells me about all of the people who have moved back from California. Life is not good in CDMX right now as the virus is as bad or worse than here, but it's a lot cheaper when there is no work in California.

COVID-19:

-The numbers: 30 more Californians lost their lives to COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total to 13,728. As an important caveat, reporting is low on weekends and then spikes during the workweek. The seven-day average on both cases and deaths continues to decline although of course it is still troubling, particularly as we enter flu season.

WILDFIRES: Of the big three, the two biggest are largely under control. CZU in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties is still at 72% containment at 1.85 milliion acres with 1,490 structures destroyed.  The scary one now is the Creek Fire northeast of Fresno that started Friday, which is at 73,278 acres and 0% containment. It is burning around Shaver Lake, a popular Sierra recreation spot. Fortunately, there aren't many houses in the area, but our recreation areas have been so hard hit this year and the economic impact has been dire.
