RECENT AURAL PLEASURE:

SacTown Talks by The Nooner

HEARTBROKEN: Another senseless killing of a young police officer, this time Tara O'Sullivan in Sacramento who was responding to a domestic violence call in what turned in to an hours-long standoff.

Understandibly, our podcast with Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed.

GASSY MATTERS: In the LAT, Patrick McGreevy reports that gas prices are going up again on July 1, although the state is still short on road funds.

NO PARTY PREFERENCE, NO VOTE: For CALmatters, Ben Christopher writes on the situation for no party preference voters who might want to vote in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. Since a majority of voters cast ballots by mail, they need to request a Democratic ballot to vote.

Meanwhile, also for CALmatters, Dan Walters writes that California's Democrats are a lot less liberal than evident at the state party convention.

VAXX: As the teevee ads continue opposing Dr. Richard Pan's SB 276, the bill is scheduled for Assembly Health upon adjournment of session.

FROM THE DESK OF THE DEAN: In the LAT, George Skelton writes about California's ugly history with treatment of Native Americans. "If Newsom is ever elected president, he can offer the nation’s apology for all the atrocities inflicted on Native Americans by European invaders — including at the Trail of Tears, Wounded Knee and Bloody Island."

LA-LA LAND and CAKEDAY after the jump...

Probolsky Research

LA-LA LAND: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has been served with recall papers over his handling of homelessness, reports Dakota Smith in the Times. "On Wednesday, Alexandra Datig, a political commentator who is leading the effort, told reporters at a news conference outside City Hall that the mayor was served with a notice of intent for recall — the first step of a long-shot attempt."

#CAKEDAY: Happy birthday to Theo Cline and Deborah Robertson!
