RECENT AURAL PLEASURE:

SacTown Talks by The Nooner

Happy Monday! I'm getting over the fact that Our Lady of Guadalupe didn't have menudo and tacos yesterday, as the corner hot link was plenty delish. I love the couple that sells them from early morning until night. Thank you, Sacramento.

This afternoon, Gibran and I are sitting down with Assemblymember James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) and I'm looking forward to chatting with a fellow UCD Law alum. Then, on Thursday, we have Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert. Both should be great conversations.

You wouldn't beieve how exhausting the pods are for Gibran and me.

Despite the Daily File, Senate Budget and Fiscal Review is apparently cancelled today per the Senate's web site. It's unclear when the budget trailer bills will be taken up, although the tax bill is up at 2:30 today in Assembly Rev. and Tax.

COSTCO CORONA: The two people shot and in critical condition in the Costco shooting in Corona by an off-duty cop on Friday night were the victim's mother and father, reports CBS LA. There is no disclosure yet of what the "assault" on the off-duty officer was, although he was taken to the hospital and released.

The cousin writes on Facebook:

"I'm not keeping quiet about this! People need to know! This is my family! These are the victims of the Costco shooting the other night. My cousin Kenneth was killed and his parents, my aunt & uncle were also both shot and are in ICU. Do they look intimidating to you? Did he really have to shoot them all? I’m posting this picture because the stories on social media have made them out to be the suspects, and the off duty cop the victim. This is a family that was unarmed and was just grocery shopping. Truth will come out! I'm sure this was a misunderstanding that got escalated for no reason! If anyone was a witness please get in contact with us."

A mentally disabled guy who was unarmed and whose parents were also shot. Give me video. Until now, I am beyond words. Los Angeles will be paying out lots of Benjamins.

I'm confused, as several articles say that a "suspect in custody," while others say that nobody has been arrested. All of the articles cite an LAPD officer as the shooter. Really, bringing a service weapon to Costco? I move our women and men in blue, but seriously? Over arugula?

Of course, the victims will have to fight the law enforcement industry and LAPD to recover any compensation, the biggest in the industry. I'm all for cops and the beat they walk, but certainly feel for the victims in this case. The victim may have hit the officer over raspberries, but for him and his parents to be shot over raspberries? No way...

And why aren't there 100 more stories on this case?

If this was our brother/uncle and father over Father's Day weekend, we would be screaming. A disabled father is dead. In front of his parents.

 CAKEDAY after the jump...

#CAKEDAY: Happy birthday to Congressman Scott Peters, Javier Ramos, and Assemblymember Mark Stone!
