Well, crap, Negan is back tonight.

What a day it was in Sandy Eggo yesterday. I skipped the trip. Heading to Oaxaca, MX in May and the city's legendary siete moles is better than a weekend of delegate pathology. Been there, done that.

This morning, we're all getting messages about "majorities" of endorsements by the California Democratic Party. Majorities don't do it...it takes 60%.

The following were on the agenda as part of the consent calendar:

  • State Treasurer: Fiona Ma
  • State Controller: Betty Yee
  • Secretary of State: Alex Padilla
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction: Tony Thurmond
  • Insurance Commissioner: Ricardo Lara

Classifieds below:

  • Education: Pepperdine Masters of Public Policy (GRE waived for legislative staffers)
  • Education: UOP/McGeorge School of Law: MPP/MPA (full-time or part-time, 3 miles from the Capitol)
  • Event: California’s Fiscal Outlook - Jerry Brown’s Final Budget and the Challenges Ahead
  • The California Dental Association seeks full-time Associate Legislative Advocate
  • Job: SAC LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER - Resident house manager (Sacramento)
  • Job: SEIU-UHW – Regional Political Organizer (Los Angeles)
  • Job: SEIU-UHW -- Political Capacity Organizer (Los Angeles)
  • CA School Boards Association – Public Affairs and Community Engagement Representatives (Bay Area, LA North East, Orange, San Bernardino, San Joaquin North)
  • Training: PDI (Political Data Inc.): weekly online trainings of various skill levels

Upward Mobility at Cal State LA

Lieutenant Governor was a surprise. Many thought political upstart Eleni Kounalakis--daughter of prominent Sacramento developer Angelo Tsakapolous would grab the nomination. Nevertheless, while she got a majority, State Senator Ed Hernandez had enough support to keep Eleni below 60%. I don't have individual votes yet, but the speculation is that labor delegates went against Eleni.

Votes are "public," something that labor pushed for. Delegates are held to the party/organization line. I've always had mixed opinions about this, as organizations help elect delegates, but a vote should be a personal choice. Do you listen to an organization boss about Tony Mendoza or Cristina Garcia or vote your conscienc?. I think #METOO has something to say on this.
