How does CBD help cancer?

E-28

DISTRICT UPDATES:

  • SD27 (Ventura): moved from Likely Democrat to Leans Democrat

Happy Tuesday! Lots of sleepy people following last night's 5-hour Giants' win. The electionis four weeks from today.

Money contiues to flow to the target races, mostly in-kind for mailers. Here are a couple from yesterday:

  • SD25 (Pasadena): Anthony Portantino - CA Democratic Party ($153,220)
  • SD27 (Ventura): Henry Stern - ($81,132)

NOOOO! California first dog Sutter Brown critically ill [Jeremy B. White @ SacBee] - "First dog Sutter Brown, a Pembroke Welsh corgi belonging to Gov. Jerry Brown, underwent emergency surgery this weekend to remove masses in his intestines, lymph nodes and liver that were “most likely cancer,” spokesman Evan Westrup said in an email."

THE DEAN SPEAKETH: Few are paying attention to California's Senate contest — because it may be putting them to sleep [George Skelton @ LAT] - "[I]t’s drawing all the interest of a mosquito abatement board seat."

MONEY MATTERS: More than $340 million raised by California proposition campaigns [Jim Miller @ SacBee] "Campaigns for and against the 17 propositions on California’s November ballot are closing in on $400 million in total contributions."

$$$:  The Billionaire Ballot Props Election [Joel Fox @ Fox and Hounds] - "Let’s look at this year’s ballot propositions as the Billionaire’s Election. While its not unheard of for the very rich to indulge in politics, no less than four of the 17 ballot measures have billionaire backers whose dollars helped get the propositions on the ballot."

PROP 62: How 'MASH' actor Mike Farrell became a leading voice against the death penalty in California [Jazmine Ulloa  @ LAT] - ":Over the past four decades, Farrell, who has wielded his celebrity to bring attention to social and political issues in Central America, the Middle East and Africa, has become a leading voice against the death penalty. This year, he is the author of a ballot measure that seeks to end capital punishment in California. For Farrell, the cause has taken precedence over others because at its root, he says, is the idea that some people are dispensable."

CA04 (Foothills): Tom McClintock disses “hand-wringing” Republicans in defending Trump’s “vulgar language” [Adam Ashton @ SacBee] - "Republican Congressman Tom McClintock on Monday criticized his “hand-wringing” GOP peers for breaking with presidential nominee Donald Trump since the leak on Friday of an 11-year-old tape that showed him crudely describing his use of his fame to kiss and  grab women."

CA07 (East Sacto County): Republican Scott Jones says abandoning Donald Trump ‘may cost me the election’ [Christopher Cadelago @ SacBee] - "Republican Scott Jones, a congressional challenger who renounced his support for Donald Trump after release of a video showing the GOP presidential nominee talking about women in vulgar terms, predicted Monday that his defection “may cost me the election.”"

CA17 (Millpitas): Upping the ante, Ro Khanna announces endorsement from former President Carter [Christine Man Duc @ LAT] - "Monday has became the day of dueling endorsements in the Silicon Valley race for Congressional District 17. Just two hours after Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) announced he has the support of outgoing Sen. Barbara Boxer in his reelection bid, challenger Ro Khanna pulled out his own blockbuster endorsement: former President Jimmy Carter."

California Democrats could regain supermajorities in Legislature [Dan Walters @ SacBee] - "Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown of San Bernardino, seen as a moderate Democrat, is being challenged for her 47th District seat by fellow Democrat Eloise Gomez Reyes in the November election."

The Assembly is almost certain to return to supermajority status, as Dems only need a net of one seat and have a few optioins. AD40 (redlands, The Senate requires a net of 2 seats, which might be a challenge. Dems are on defense in SD25 and SD27

We may not know for a couple of weeks after the election while provisional and late absentee ballots are tallied.

If Only Jerry Brown Took His Own Advice on Keeping Voting Simple [Joe Mathews @ Fox and Hounds] - "In vetoing Senate Bill 1288, which would have permitted Ranked Choice Voting in local governments, Gov. Jerry Brown issued a message arguing that elections need to be simpler."

Tom Steyer pitched as possible Obama energy secretary in 2008, emails show [Christopher Cadelago @ SacBee] - "Tom Steyer, the billionaire climate activist and possible candidate for California governor, was under consideration to become President Barack Obama’s first energy secretary, according to a hacked email exchange released Monday by WikiLeaks."

#CAKEDAY: Happy birthday to Tim Nader!

Donald Trump wasn’t my first or even second choice for President, but I can certainly tell the difference between a fire and a fireman.  And when a fireman is trying to save my house from burning down, the fact he uses lewd and vulgar language in private conversations with other guys doesn’t change the nature of the emergency.

After a defeat in November, Pence would be out of office, with no fund-raising base or forum for visibility. He is an icon of the Christian right, but it is doubtful that he can parlay only that into the Republican nomination. And then there is the question of whether the GOP nomination will be worth anything at all, given the internecine warfare now raging within the party.
