NEXT10: Next 10 their nonpartisilan analysis of the you're confused.

DINOSAUR: Dianne Feinstein authors an op-ed against the Airbnb regulations adoped by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Outside mailers in Campos-Chiu campaign play loose with truth
Marisa Lagos @
sfgate.com
[...] there’s the committee made up of labor groups — primarily the California Nurses Association and SEIU public workers union — that is supporting Campos and has raised nearly $260,000 this year from unions. The committee has sent out a series of mailers suggesting that because the online communications company that Chiu co-founded, Grassroots Enterprise, did some contract work with the Republican Party, that he is antichoice, against same-sex marriage and a climate-change denier. Next up is the committee funded by tech investors Reid Hoffman and Ron Conway, who have raised nearly $600,000 this year and are busy sending out mailers attacking Campos for his vote to keep Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi on the job (that part is true) and for his “$20 million taxpayer giveaway to Big Oil.” The mailer is focusing on an ongoing fight at City Hall over whether San Francisco should offer its residents the option of a clean energy program that would topple Pacific Gas & Electric Co.’s decades-long monopoly on the city’s power market. In addition to linking Campos to a now-defunct deal, it conflates Shell Energy North America, the company’s energy and natural gas division, with its parent company, Shell, quoting headlines about the company’s involvement in Arctic drilling and accusations it fueled violence in Nigeria by paying off rival militant gangs. David Chiu’s billionaire Airbnb investor friends have realized that their sleazy attempt to use domestic violence to get their friend elected has backfired and angered women.

S.F. supervisor proposes drugmakers fund take-back program
Stephanie M. Lee @
sfgate.com
Seeking to prevent overdoses and reduce contaminants in water, Supervisor David Chiu told The Chronicle he will introduce legislation before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that would require drugmakers, and no longer taxpayers, to fund the disposal of unused and unwanted medications. Because a similar proposal was recently defeated in the California state Legislature, a successful passage in San Francisco could inspire other counties, one by one, to implement their own laws, proponents of the program say. Like Alameda County, he said, San Francisco is confronting prescription drug abuse, which public health officials consider to be the fastest-growing drug problem in the nation, accidental overdoses by children and senior citizens, and wastewater treatment facilities that are not designed to filter pharmaceutical chemicals. [...] that the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco has maintained that Alameda County’s ordinance treats all drugmakers equally and does not place a significant burden on interstate business, other counties could follow suit, said Heidi Sanborn, executive director of the California Product Stewardship Council, which advocates for manufacturers to pay for the disposal of drugs, paint, batteries and other hazardous products.
