    In the 2012 redistricting, the commission drew two congressional seats running north-south in the San Fernando Valley, thus creating a majority Latino seat on the eastern side and setting off the ugly fight for the western side, where Howard Berman and Brad Sherman faced off.

    Tony Cardenas easily won the primary and general for the eastern district and, at 51, will likely have a long tenure in the House in this safe Democratic seat.
